Shangtang Street

There's never a dull moment in Suzhou. Your options are endless, from retail therapy in huge department stores, local shops, heading to the huge copy markets, visiting local tailors to get a brand new outfit sewn, sports, exploring the city etc. It all depends on your interests:)

I'm glad I agreed to a friend's invitation to explore Shangtang Jie (Jie is Mandarin for Street).
We caught a local boat from Tiger Hill and travelled to Shangtang Jie. This street is very popular with tourists.

Travelling up the canal, you catch a glimpse of what life was like in the ancient town. People still live along the canal.

On Shangtang Jie, you can find different specialty shops selling souvenirs, stone carvings, paintings and many more.

They say that at night the red lanterns light up. I could imagine it being a beautiful sight when it's all lit up!
